25-year-old Nitro Circus freestyle motocross rider Vicki Golden shattered her heel while attempting a jump where she fell 15 feet. The local doctors were not willing to compromise her career by doing the invasive surgeries her injury required and her surgeon was across the country. Stranded in Ohio, hundreds of miles away from her home and surgeon in California, Vicki was desperate to get home but had limited options. Our friends at Road2Recovery reached out to us for assistance in getting Vicki back to California, where she immediately went into surgery.
Vicki’s injury was worse than anyone had initially thought. The doctors in Ohio believed her ankle had been shattered in about 5 different spots but her specialist, Dr. Naasz at St. Jude’s in California, discovered it had been shattered more extensively and required a bone graph. Three surgeries later, not only is she on the mend, her future is bright. “My foot and ankle may never be the same,” Vicki said, “but thanks to Dr. Naasz’s help my career is safe. I can’t thank Road to Recovery and Charity Air enough for helping me get home and to the right doctor to save my career!”
Vicki is now looking forward to getting her cast off and starting light physical therapy. “I’m excited to start the process and get one step closer to be back on my bike.” She told Charity Air. We are so pleased to be able to work with Road2Recovery again and to help Vicki in her journey of healing and getting back to doing what she loves.
